Technology is Listening in 2018

According to AdExchanger, “Chinese manufacturer Hisense debuted the first 4k HD smart TV projector integrated with AI-powered voice assistants, and a connected TV that can place online orders for consumers using voice”. Connected homes will feature ovens and refrigerators enabled by voice. The computers powering these devices will collaborate data to paint a holistic picture of the consumer.

What this means for marketers: In the future, advertising will shift to a more channel agnostic model. We’ll be interested in reaching a certain user, and we’ll be able to do that across any of their devices with ease. Voice will play a huge role in connecting these pipes. Rather than hoping someone hops in their car and drives to the grocery store after seeing a salsa ad on a sports website, the refrigerator may prove to be more efficient in handling this role. When the football fan goes to prepare food for the big Eagles game, the fridge will ask the user if they’d like to place an order for salsa, which will arrive via drone before kick-off. Voice will be one of the next huge waves to fuel the brain behind advertising.  Harmelin will continue to monitor the trend of Voice Technology so we can recommend innovate opportunities for clients.
