Anniversary Interview: Lisa Rothmiller, Media Director, Celebrates 15 Years with Harmelin Media

Lisa RothmillerLast week Lisa Rothmiller, Media Director, celebrated 15 years at Harmelin Media. Since graduating from Temple University and coming to Harmelin she has worked in account management, spot buying and planning across various media, and promotions management. Lisa currently works in our Network TV Department, buying and planning on a national scale for various clients.

Today we continue our Anniversary Interview Series, sitting down with her to get her take on our industry and get to know her personally.

What are some of the notable changes you have seen in the industry since you started at Harmelin?

The industry has evolved so much since I started at Harmelin 15 years ago. The most notable change to me is the emergence of advanced audience targeting solutions within the television landscape. Although its gradually taking shape, more and more advertisers and agencies are looking for ways to measure advertising and improve ROI.

What has been your greatest success at Harmelin?

Aside from building leadership skills and relationships with vendors and colleagues, one of the successes that I am most proud of during my tenure at Harmelin Media is my involvement with our Diversity Resource Group. It is an employee-based resource group that focuses on bringing a diverse perspective to the media work that we do, either via personal or professional experience. The goal is to help guide conversations and media plan development, where the target audience may include a diverse demographic.

Where do you see the industry in the next 1 Year, 5 years, 10 years?

The industry continues to shift in the direction of creating a more enjoyable user experience throughout the media ecosystem, while also focusing on various measurement solutions to make buys more accountable. I believe this will only be enhanced over the next several years.

What is the most unique trip you have ever taken?

The most unique trip I have ever taken was during my junior year in college, when I spent a semester studying abroad in Italy. It was the first time I was far away from home without direct access to family, which was a huge adjustment. Although being away was challenging, the memories made and experiences that I have from that time are unmatched, and I would do it again.

If you were a brand, what would be your motto?

“Have the freedom to fail!” I heard something similar once, and initially chuckled at the thought. Why would anyone want to fail? After sitting with that idea for a moment, I realized how impactful it truly is. If you want to succeed at anything in life, you cannot be afraid to dream big, take chances and go after what some may think as unattainable. Allow yourself the freedom to fail, but also the opportunity to soar!

What is your philosophy towards your work?

There are several ‘gems’ that I live by both personally and professionally. First – preparation is key. It’s important to do your due diligence with anything, especially before presenting or submitting work, whether internally or externally. Second – walk humbly. You never know when you will need to ask for help, so leave attitudes and arrogance at the door. Third – treat people how you would like to be treated. It is an old adage, but still holds true. We all want to be treated with kindness and respect, no matter title or position. Finally – enjoy the moment. Life is too short to be stressed, so have fun!

Caity Lamb, Media Director, has worked with Lisa since she joined the network TV broadcast team in late 2016: “Working with Lisa is wonderful. She is reliable, helpful and open-minded – constantly raising her hand to further progress our client strategies and grow her knowledge of the ever-evolving video landscape. She is a wonderful collaborator, a fierce negotiator, and a thoughtful planner. I’m so grateful to be working side by side with her.

Monica Crane, Associate Vice President, has been Lisa’s supervisor for almost four years: “Having Lisa come over to our team with her diverse background in account management and client service, planning and buying, for accounts both large and small, local and national, was such a valuable addition to our team. Her experience provides a 360-degree view to current projects and challenges. Her patience, nurturing way and logical thinking have helped develop team members and grow our department and she is a joy to work with.

Thank you, Lisa, for 15 years of dedication to Harmelin and the success our clients. Congratulations!
